Terriers Fall To South Carolina In 2003 Season Opener

Charleston, S.C. - The Terrier men's soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision to the University of South Carolina in the 2003 season opener at Eugene E. Stone III Stadium on Friday, August 29. Freshman Anders Ostli (Fredrikstead, Norway) provided the Terriers with their only score, tallying his first-collegiate goal in the 66th minute of play.
B.U. (0-1-0) trailed 1-0 entering halftime as the Gamecock's Ayo Akinsete scored off feed from Ben Link in the 24th minute of action.
South Carolina (1-0-0) received back-to-back scores early in the second half off Greg Reece and Ryan Deter, extending the lead to 3-0.
Ostli scored an unassisted goal at 65:21 to narrow the deficit to 3-1. Akinsete assisted Michael Sambursky for the Gamecock's final goal at 70:48.
South Carolina out-shot B.U., 19-6, and held a 7-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Brad Guzan secured the win for South Carolina with four saves.
Freshman Zach Riffett (Brenham, TX) earned the start in the net for the Terriers, making four saves while allowing four goals in 73:41. Sophomore Chad Comroe (Dallas, TX) relieved Riffett for the final 16:19 and was not contested.
The Terriers open their 2003 home schedule when they host rival Boston College on Monday, Septemeber 1, at 7:00 p.m.
