Terriers Fall To Huskies, 2-1
October 12, 2004 | Men's Soccer
Storrs, CT - Husky freshman Bonginkosi Macala netted the game-winning goal as the University of Connecticut defeated Boston University, 2-1, at Morrone Stadium on Tuesday, Oct. 12.
With the victory, UConn improves to 6-4-2 on the season while the Terriers fall to 4-6-1.
The Huskies took an early lead as Chukwudi Chijindu beat Terrier goalkeeper Zach Riffett (Brenham, TX) with a low shot to the left hand side of the net off a feed from Easton Wilson 2:54 into the first half.
B.U. managed to knot the score in the 24th minute when freshman forward Roland Erlichman (Paradise Valley, AZ) connected with a pass from classmate Miles Dunn (Dover, MA) for his team-leading fourth goal of the season.
Macala then answered for UConn at 27:24, giving the Huskies the 2-1 advantage, which would be all Connecticut would need as Boston University did not register another shot on net in the remainder of the contest. The Huskies would go on to out-shoot the Terriers, 11-2, in the game.
UConn goalkeeper Adam Shuerman earned the victory, allowing one goal while not registering a save. Riffett made five saves in the loss.
B.U. returns to America East action when it hosts Vermont on Saturday, Oct. 16, at 2:00 p.m.
