December 14, 2004 | Men's Basketball
B.U. (6-2) wrapped up its six-game road trip with a 5-1 record. Michigan (6-4) lost for t he first time in seven home games this season. Michigan has a 22-4 home record over the last two seasons, with half the losses coming at the hands of the Terriers. Last year, B.U. earned a 61-60 victory at Michigan.
Senior guard Chaz Carr (Manchester, Conn.) led all scorers with 16 points, scoring 14 of those points in the second half. He was joined in double figures by senior forward Rashad Bell (Queens, N.Y.), who had 14 points, freshman guard Matt Wolff (Walpole, Mass.), who scored 11 points, and junior forward Kevin Gardner (Palos Verdes, Calif.), who finished with 10 points and a team-high nine rebounds.
The Terriers opened a 30-22 lead after a jumper by sophomore forward Etienne Brower (West Hempstead, N.Y.) on the team's first possession of the second half. Michigan then got back into the game with a 13-3 run to take a 35-33 lead with 13:40 on the clock.
It was Carr that answered the Wolverines' comeback attempt, as two of his three second-half three-pointers book-ended a 10-2 Terrier run and gave the visitors a six-point lead at 43-37 with a little over 10 minutes remaining.
Momentum swung back around to Michigan as Brent Petway's dunk with 3:48 to go cut the B.U. lead to 50-49. The Terriers seized control once again, however, outscoring the Wolverines, 13-3, the rest of the way, taking their largest lead of the game (the final score) on a pair of Bell free throws with six seconds on the clock.
B.U. out-rebounded the bigger Wolverines, 30-27, and made half of its three-pointers, connecting on 7-of-14, while Michigan could only muster a 3-for-17 effort (17.6 percent) from behind the line.
Petway and Chris Hunter led Michigan with 13 points each.
B.U. takes the next nine days off during final exams and returns to action on Thursday, Dec. 23 to host Canisius in a 3 p.m. game.
