Two Agganis Arena Dates Highlight B.U. Basketball Schedule
July 19, 2004 | Men's Basketball
Both Terrier teams will host the University of Vermont on Saturday, Feb. 12, and Northeastern University the following Sunday, Feb. 20. The women's games are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., with the men's contests set for 4 p.m. They will be the first basketball contests held at Agganis Arena. The Terriers' Case Gymnasium will serve as the team's primary home court for the remainder of their home schedule.
Agganis Arena is located within Boston University's new $225 million John Hancock Student Village, a 10-acre hub of activity designed to be the thriving center of student life and athletics on campus.
Head coach Dennis Wolff and the men's team open their schedule with a pair of home games against Holy Cross on Nov. 20 and Fordham University on Nov. 24. It's the first time B.U. has opened with two home games since the 1989-90 season.
Six straight road games follow, with dates against the University of Rhode Island on Nov. 30, Boston College on Dec. 11, and the University of Michigan on Dec. 14, highlighting the trip. All three teams made post-season appearances last year, with BC advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, and Michigan earning the NIT Championship. The Wolverines will be looking to avenge a 61-60 home loss to the Terriers last season - one of the program's biggest wins in its 95-year history. URI defeated the Terriers in the opening round of the 2004 post-season NIT.
Road games against Youngstown State University on Nov. 27, Harvard University on Dec. 7, and the University of Massachusetts on Dec. 28, along with a Dec. 23 home game against Canisius, round out the non-conference schedule.
For the first time since the 2000-01 season, the Terriers will open their America East schedule with a December game. They host the University of New Hampshire at Case Gym on Dec. 4. The remainder of the 18-game conference slate begins with a Jan. 2 date at the University at Albany.
Last year, the Terriers compiled a 23-6 record, winning 23 out of 24 games, including 17-of-18 conference contests, during a late-season run that earned them their third consecutive America East regular-season title and their second straight NIT post-season bid.
The first three rounds of the 2005 America East Men's Basketball Championship will be held March 4-6 at Binghamton University. The 2005 America East Championship game is scheduled for Saturday, March 12 at the highest remaining seed.
