September 15, 2005 | Men's Basketball
The Terriers open their home schedule against Big-10 member Michigan on Tuesday, November 22 at Agganis. BU has beaten the Wolverines in each of the past two years in Ann Arbor, Mich., and will go for the series sweep this year. Road contests at George Washington and Massachusetts, as well as a trip to the West Coast over Christmas break to play in the Cable Car Classic highlight the non-conference portion of the schedule. BU will also take on Rhode Island at Agganis Arena on Nov. 29, as the Terriers face three Atlantic 10 foes in the early going.
America East play opens with a pair of games in December, against New Hampshire in "The Roof" on Dec. 8, and at Maine on Dec. 10. BU will play Bucknell in the first round of the Cable Car Classic on Dec. 28, then take on either Cal-Riverside or tournament host Santa Clara the following night. Conference play begins in earnest in January, as five of the Terriers' first seven league games after the new year will be at home. BU hosts a pair of Agganis Arena Sunday matinees during the stretch, taking on defending America East champion Vermont on Jan. 22 and Maine on Jan. 29. Five of the final seven conference games are on the road, followed by the America East Tournament opening rounds Mar. 3-5 in Vestal, N.Y. The championship game will be played at the site of the highest-remaining seed on Mar. 11
"We have a very challenging schedule," said Terrier head coach Dennis Wolff, who is 192-133 in 11 years at BU, and is the school's all-time leader in victories. "We have a young team this year, but we have a chance to be a good squad and compete for the league title come February."
The Terriers went 20-9 in 2004-05, including 14-4 in the America East, good for third place. BU advanced to the NIT, marking the fourth consecutive season the school has been invited to postseason play a first in school annals. The Terriers return two starters from a year ago, including senior forward Kevin Gardner (Palos Verde, CA/Peninsula), who averaged 7.3 ppg and 5.7 rpg and senior guard Shaun Wynn (Brooklyn, N.Y./Xaverian), who averaged 6.2 ppg and 3.4 apg last year.
