
Men's Soccer Hits the Road To Face Rhody

BOSTON - The Boston University men???s soccer team completes its four-game road stint as it takes on the University of Rhode Island tonight (Sept. 20) at 7:00 p.m. in Kingston, R.I. The Terriers hold a 1-4-0 overall record as they look for their first win away from BU???s Nickerson Field, while the Rams are 2-2-1 and have won their last two matches.
The Terriers have fallen by identical 1-0 tallies in three of their last four games, most recently on Friday (Sept. 16) at Brown. Previous to that, BU faced three top-20 opponents in then No. 15 Boston College, No. 17 Notre Dame and No. 1 Indiana, after a season-opening win against the New Jersey Institute of Technology on Sept. 1.
Rhode Island fell to 0-2-1 in its first three games before picking up a 3-2 win over William & Mary on Sept. 11 and a 3-1 victory vs. Northeastern on Sept. 14. The Rams are 1-1-1 at their home field and Lukasz Tumicz and Jeffrey Gonsalves lead the team with eight points apiece (3 goals, 2 assists).
Terrier senior midfielder Sedrick Chin scored the game-winner 1:39 of the first overtime for a 3-2 win over then #24 Rhode Island in last year???s match up in Boston. BU holds the 17-15-8 all-time advantage over the Rams. The two teams have met once a year for the past 42 years except during the 1999 and 2000 seasons. In the last 10 meetings, each team has five wins.
Senior captain Jamie Johnson currently leads the Terriers with five points (2 goals, 1 assist), despite missing the last three games with a minor leg injury. Two of the top recruits, forward Petur Sigurdsson and back Zach Bauer, remain out with injuries.
The game is set to begin at 7:00 p.m. at the URI Soccer Complex.
