
Women's Basketball Travels to UMKC for Saturday Contest

BOSTON - After opening the season with an 82-66 victory over the University of Rhode Island, the Boston University women’s basketball team (1-0) travels to take on the University of Missouri–Kansas City Kangaroos (1-1) at UMKC’s Swinney Recreation Center. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT: In her collegiate debut, Kristen Folk recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds and Cheri Raffo had a team-high 16 points as the Boston University women’s basketball team rolled to an 82-66 road victory over the University of Rhode Island in the season opener for the Terriers on Tuesday.
Five players scored in double digits and each BU player on the court scored at least two points. Senior Katie Meinhardt tallied 15 points and sophomores Christine Kinneary (11 pts) and Kristi Dini (14 pts) also contributed on the offensive front. Dini went 4-for-6 from behind the 3-point line. Freshman Aly Hinton made her first appearance as a Terrier and brought down a game-high 13 boards.
The Terriers went on a 10-0 run to take a seven-point lead and take the 43-37 advantage into the half, as Meinhardt hit a 3-pointer with five seconds remaining. In the first half, BU shot .484 from the field, while Meinhardt paced the offense with 12 points. The second half was all BU as it opened the second stanza with five straight points from Raffo and never looked back.
SCOUTING THE KANGAROOS: UMKC is currently 1-1 on the season and will play the University of Kansas on Thursday prior to its game with BU on Saturday. In their first two games, the Kangaroos defeated Northern Colorado by a 71-46 margin. Four players scored in double digits as Chazny Morris (17 pts), Jowan Ortega (13 pts), Brittany Picconi (11 pts) and Stephanie Brown (11 pts) paced the UMKC offense.
The Kangaroos followed up their season opener with an 89-72 loss to Colorado State on Nov. 14. Despite the loss, Ortega (19 pts), Brown (18 pts) and Alysa Klein (12 pts) had strong offensive performances. Brown also bought down 10 rebounds for the double-double.

BU-UMKC HISTORY: Today’s game between the Terriers and Kangaroos will be the teams’ first meeting. Moreover, today’s match-up will be the first for BU with any Mid-Continent Conference team.
ON THE ROAD AGAIN: Boston University will open its 2006-07 season with three consecutive away contests before returning home to Case Gym to host Canisius College on Nov. 26. Following the match-up with Canisius, the Terriers will hit the road to Storrs, Conn., to take on the No. 8 Connecticut Huskies on Nov. 28, before heading out West to participate in the Arizona State Tournament with ASU, Northern Arizona and Eastern Michigan on Dec. 1 and Dec. 2.
NEXT TIME OUT: The Terriers complete their season-opening three-game road trip with a Nov. 21 face-off with cross-town foe Northeastern. The series with the Huskies dates back to the 1976 season and BU leads 34-30. BU has claimed victory in seven of the last eight games with Northeastern, and the Terriers will aim to make it two in a row after their 73-46 victory last season. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m.
