
Women's Soccer Set to Play UMBC on Sunday

BOSTON - The Boston University women's soccer team will look to remain unbeaten in conference action on Sunday when it hosts UMBC at 1:00 p.m. at Nickerson Field. The Terriers are 6-5-2 overall and 3-0-0 in the America East Conference, while the Retrievers stand at 1-10-2 overall and 0-4-0 in AE action.
The Terriers are 4-0-0 against UMBC in a series that dates back to 2003. In 2006, BU earned a 3-0 road win against the Retrievers.
BU extended its unbeaten streak to four games on Thursday evening when it defeated Maine, 3-1. Junior Shannon Mullen (Dallas, Texas), sophomore Casey Brown (Natick, Mass.) and freshman Stephanie Croghan (McLean, Va.) all tallied goals in the victory. Senior Christina Reuter (Madison, Wis.) got the nod in goal and made four saves to earn the win. Sophomore Marisha Schumacher-Hodge (Pittsburgh, Pa.) earned two assists in the contest.
Most recently, the Retrievers dropped a 1-0 decision to Hartford on Thursday - its fifth straight loss. UMBC has also lost to New Hampshire and Maine in the 2007 campaign.
Ashley Singer is the offensive leader with three goals. Sandra Vacarino and Caitlyn Slattery are close behind with two goals apiece. In goal, Catie Bukowski is 1-5-1 overall with a 1.41 goals against average, while Christine Bacinski is 0-5-1 with a 2.59 GAA.
Following Sunday's game, BU will host Hartford on Thursday, Oct. 18.
