BOSTON - Looking to keep its win streak going heading into the heart of the America East season, the Boston University men's soccer team travels to face Albany on Oct. 17 at 4 p.m. in Albany, N.Y. The Terriers will be looking for their second-straight win against the Great Danes on Wednesday.
Boston University (7-5-0, 1-1-0 America East) won both its games last week, downing Maine 2-0 before defeating Penn State 2-1. Freshman forward Aaron O'Neal figured prominently in the Terriers' success in the prior two matches, scoring both of BU's goals against Maine and assisting on one in the victory over the Nittany Lions.
O'Neal leads BU in scoring with five goals and two assists for 12 points. Three of his five goals have been game-winning scores. Red-shirt sophomore Joe Cullaro (New York, N.Y.) has taken over for injured classmate Hrafn Davidsson (Reykjavik, Iceland). Cullaro has recorded two shutouts in his two starts this year and has a goals against average (GAA) of 0.47 and a save percentage of .800 through four games.
Albany (2-7-2, 1-0-1 AE) has been outscored 21-8 so far this season. In its last outing, Albany and New Hampshire played to a 0-0 draw through two overtimes. Shaun Kane is the Great Danes' leading scorer with two goals. Five other players have one goal apiece.
The all-time series dates back to 1999, a 4-0 win by Boston University. The Terriers did not lose in the first six games of the rivalry; Albany recorded its first win in 2006, 1-0 in overtime on Nickerson Field. Playing on the road against the Great Danes seems to be a charm as BU is a perfect 4-0 in Albany, N.Y.
Following the game against Albany, the Terriers return home to host Stony Brook on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 1 p.m.
