Albany, N.Y. - Senior co-captain and defender Derek Puerta (Providence, R.I.) scored the Boston University (7-5-1, 1-1-1 AE) men's soccer team's only goal as the Terriers played to a 1-1 double overtime tie with Albany (2-7-3, 1-0-2 AE) on Wednesday evening.
Puerta's tally was his first of the season and just the second of his career.
He scored in the 71st minute after junior Neil Hlavaty (Lombard, Ill.) lofted a corner kick into the box. Puerta's goal answered an Albany tally just three minutes prior when Erik DiLorenzo put a header in from the top of the box.
The teams played to a scoreless tie in the first half. Sophomore Joe Cullaro (New York, N.Y.) made two saves in goal in 110 minutes of play. Albany's Steward Ceus made four stops in goal.
BU out-shot Albany 17-10 and held a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The Terriers return to action on Saturday, Oct. 20 when they host Stony Brook at 1 p.m. on Nickerson Field.
