
Women's Soccer Takes on Hartford on Thursday

BOSTON - The Boston University women's soccer team (7-5-2 overall, 4-0-0 AE) will take on defending America East champion Hartford (4-5-4 overall, 2-0-2 AE) on Thursday, Oct. 18 at Nickerson Field. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. The Terriers are the only remaining AE team with an unblemished recorded in the conference, while the Hawks have played to two ties in their first four league contests.
BU is off to its best conference start since 2000, when the squad went 9-0-0 in AE action. In league contests, the Terriers' offense has come alive with 10 goals. They have outscored AE teams, 10-1, while holding a commanding lead in corner kicks, 27-4. Leading the offensive surge is junior Marisha Schumacher-Hodge (Pittsburgh, Pa.) with nine points on two goals and five assists. Freshman Stephanie Croghan (McLean, Va.) has tallied three goals and sophomore Casey Brown (Natick, Mass.) has put two in the back of the net against AE opponents.
The defense has been just as reliable in conference action, with three shutouts in four games to go along with its 0.25 goals against average. Senior Christina Reuter (Madison, Wis.) has started the past five games and currently owns a 0.74 GAA and .854 save percentage. BU is 16th in save percentage (.878) and 25th in the nation in GAA (0.618), while Reuter ranks 32nd in save percentage.
Hartford has relied on its steady defense in conference games, holding opponents to just one goal in four contests, while scoring one goal per game. Overall, Kacey Busque leads the Hawks with four goals and one assist, and returning AE Offensive Player of the Year Megan Reimer (2-2--6) and Michelle Orelli (2-1--5) have also provided offense. Liz Cook has started in 11 games this season, amassing a 0.82 GAA and .848 save percentage. Cook has recorded five shutouts.
The Hawks have defeated Binghamton and UMBC, while tying Stony Brook and Maine in AE play. Heading into its conference slate, Hartford was 2-4-2 with wins over Army and Holy Cross.
Following Thursday's match-up, BU will travel to Stony Brook for a 1:00 p.m. contest on Sunday, Oct. 21.
