BOSTON - After earning two convincing wins to start the season, the Boston University women's basketball team will welcome No. 16 Ohio State at Agganis Arena on Saturday, Nov. 17 at 4:00 p.m. The contest will be the first in a doubleheader with the men's team, which plays at 7:00 p.m. against Saint Joseph's.
THE TERRIERS: The Terriers have started the season off on the right foot with back-to-back 70-plus point games. In the season opener, BU downed Siena on Nov. 10, 70-66, and followed that up with a commanding 77-56 victory over Atlantic 10 foe Rhode Island on Tuesday. In both contests, BU got career-best performances out of its captains, as Kasey Devine and Christine Kinneary turned in career highs. Devine upped her collegiate mark to 18 points in a game at Siena, while Kinneary posted 17 versus Rhode Island.
Junior Jesyka Burks-Wiley has been dominant on the boards, averaging 8.5 rebounds per game.
As a team, BU shot an impressive .864 (38-44) from the free-throw line and .480 from the field through the first two games. The Terriers have averaged 12.5 more points per game than their opponents have this season.
SCOUTING THE BUCKEYES: In two games, Ohio State has seen a senior and a freshman average 18 or more points, as Marscillar Parker has scored 37 points and newcomer Jantel Lavender is not far behind with 36 points. Lavender is also the team leader in rebounds per game with 9.5.
The Buckeyes opened their season with a 63-57 win over Marist and followed it up with an 88-41 win versus Tennessee State. They own a +26.5 scoring margin and have out rebounded their opponents, 79-55.
BU VS. OHIO STATE: The Terriers and Buckeyes have met just once prior to Saturday's match up. On Dec. 14, 1999, Ohio State defeated BU, 79-49, in Columbus.
BU VS. THE BIG 10: The Terriers are 2-10 all-time against Big Ten opponents and 0-2 on home court. Since head coach Kelly Greenberg took over the reigns in 2004, BU has faced Indiana twice (Dec. 12, 2004; Dec. 10, 2005) - both losses. The Terriers' two wins against the conference came against Penn State (Dec. 7, 1981; W, 66-64) and Purdue (Dec. 29, 1983; W, 61-45).
TERRIERS AT AGGANIS ARENA: The Terriers have played at Agganis Arena four times since the arena was built in the 2004-05 season and they currently own a three-game winning streak at the facility.
NEXT TIME OUT: Boston University will host another doubleheader on Monday, Nov. 19 when Northeastern makes the short trek across town to face off at 5:30 p.m. The men will tip off at 8:00 p.m.
