BOSTON - Looking for their seventh-straight win against Harvard, the Boston University men's basketball team (1-6) hosts the Crimson (4-4) on Tuesday, Dec. 4 at 7 p.m. in Case Gym. This will be the Terriers' fourth meeting with first-year Harvard head coach Tommy Amaker in five years.
Harvard leads the all-time series 32-25, but the Terriers have been making a comeback in recent years. BU has won 13 of the last 14 games played, including the last six consecutive contests. The Terriers' biggest win came on Dec. 9, 2003, an 86-42 decision in Case Gym.
Harvard is an even 4-4 on the year after a 62-51 win over Michigan on Saturday. Harvard scored the last 11 points of the game to earn the victory after Michigan pulled even at 51 with 3:38 remaining in the game. The Crimson has been alternating two wins and two losses since starting the year with a 111-56 loss to Stanford. Three players average double figures for Harvard - Drew Housman (13.9 ppg), Jeremy Lin (12.3 ppg) and Evan Harris (11.4 ppg.) Pat Magnarelli is the team's leading rebounder, averaging 6.4 rpg.
Sophomore guard Corey Lowe (Newton, Mass.) is BU's leading scorer with 16.4 points per game. Classmates Carlos Strong (Portland, Maine) and Scott Brittain (Oakville, Ont.) are the other two Terriers in double figures. Strong had two straight 20-plus point games last week and averages 13.1 ppg. Brittain averages 10.1 ppg and a team-best 5.7 rpg. He is shooting 55.3 percent from the floor (26-for-47).
In the 72-65 loss to Manhattan on Saturday, Strong and Lowe each scored 20-plus points but the Terriers couldn't sustain their attack as they fell to the Jaspers. Down 19-5 in the middle of the first, Lowe scored five straight points on a layup and a 3-pointer before Strong knocked down three treys to trim Manhattan's edge to four points, 28-24, with a minute left before the half. A layup by Lowe at 33 seconds narrowed the gap to 28-26 before Manhattan's Antoine Pearson made a layup with seven seconds left to give the Jaspers a 30-26 halftime lead. But the Terriers came out flat in the second half as Manhattan ran up another double-digit lead. BU trimmed it to six twice but got no closer.
Boston University begins a five-game road swing with Yale on Tuesday, Dec. 11 at 7:30 p.m.
