BOSTON - The Boston University men’s tennis team bounced back from its loss to Boston College by defeating Monmouth University, 5-2, at the Track and Tennis Center on Sunday, Feb. 11. The Terriers improve to move to an even 3-3 record on the year.
For the Terriers, the afternoon was filled with promising doubles and singles performances. Following a sweep of the doubles, senior Barrett Wolf (Boca Raton, Fla.) had another dominant showing at first singles, defeating Monmouth’s Ben Evenden, 6-1, 6-1. After a slow start, third singles player Charles Weinstein (New Rochelle, N.Y.) came back against MU’s Pedro Bruno to take the second set and the match, 4-6, 6-4, (10-4). At fourth singles, freshman Jeff Chudacoff (Highland Park, Ill.) had yet another convincing victory, winning 6-1, 6-1, over Monmouth’s Tim McLane.
“That may have been the fastest we’ve ever won the doubles point,”
coach Rocky Jarvis said. “I am really pleased with the way we got down to business and got the win today.”
The most important victory for the Terriers came off the racquet of junior co-captain Jared Kobren (Longboat Key, Fla.), who clinched the match by defeating MU’s Tom Currie, 7-5, 6-1. Kobren’s win also marked his first victory since returning from offseason wrist surgery.
“Jared worked extremely hard in his rehab and he’s starting to find his stroke again,” Jarvis declared. “He has great character and for him to play this well after so much time off is just incredible. More importantly, it gives our team a huge boost.”
BU’s men’s tennis team is off until Sunday, Feb. 18, when the Terriers face conference foe Hartford University at the Track and Tennis Center at 2 p.m.
