BOSTON - Tim Lipsky has been appointed as the head coach of the Boston University men's tennis team, as announced Thursday by director of athletics Mike Lynch. Lipsky comes to BU after spending six years as an assistant coach at Boston College.
He replaces Rocky Jarvis, who served as the team's coach for the past three seasons before retiring this summer.
"We're excited to welcome Tim to our staff," said Lynch. "I'm confident that he will continue the momentum the men's tennis program has worked to build."
Lipsky has spent the last 12 years working in the business sector as a business strategy consultant and has run the strategy side of a small ad agency for the last five years.
He has competed in New England Men's Open Division tournaments as an amateur and achieved rankings as high as No. 5 in singles and No. 2 in doubles in New England. Lipsky is a former tennis pro at Spring Valley Country Club and a former teaching pro at Boston Sports Club in Newton, Mass.
He played college tennis for Massachusetts-Amherst in the No. 1 position for both singles and doubles and served as team captain. Lipsky graduated from UMass with a finance degree in 1995 and earned his M.B.A from Harvard Business School in 1999.
