BOSTON - With two games remaining in the 2008 regular season, the Boston University women's soccer team (11-5-1, 6-0-0 AE) will travel to UMBC (2-15-0, 1-5-0 AE) on Thursday, Oct. 23, for a 3 p.m. kick off. The Terriers need a win or a tie in one of their final two contests to secure the America East regular-season crown outright for the fifth time in program history. BU has already claimed at least a share of the title, a top seed in the America East Women's Soccer Championship and home field advantage throughout the tourney.
The Terriers enter Wednesday's match-up riding a five-game winning streak and a eight-game unbeaten stretch as the lone tie came to non-conference rival Dartmouth on Oct. 19. The month-long unbeaten streak began on Sept. 24 in a 1-0 victory over Brown and the Terriers have not looked back, outscoring opponents, 16-3, and forcing 79 shots on goal. During this time period, five different Terriers have recorded multiple goals and eight players in all have found the back of the net.
Overall this season, juniors Farrell McClernon and Emily Pallotta lead the offense with four goals and two assists apiece, while senior Marisha Schumacher-Hodge is close behind with three goals.
Sophomore netminder Janie Reilly has had a breakout season with an impressive 0.60 goal-against average, which ranks 21st in the nation, and .833 save percentage. She has recorded eight shutouts and held opponents to 309:55 consecutive scoreless minutes. The Terriers' 0.59 shutout percentage is tied for 15th in the national ranks.
UMBC has struggled on the offensive front this season, registering five goals - three from Morgan Warrington and one each from Danielle Kell and Christine Sadowski. The Retrievers have used three goalkeepers this season as Catie Bukowski, Christine Bacinski and Mo Van Vlerah have all seen significant time in net. Following Wednesday's game, UMBC will close out the regular season at Albany on Sunday (Oct. 26).
BU will travel to Hartford on Sunday, Oct. 26 for its final regular-season game. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
