BOSTON - The Boston University women's soccer team (6-5-1, 1-0-0 AE) will return to America East action on Sunday when it travels to Vermont (2-9, 0-1 AE) for a 1 p.m. kick off. The Terriers have gone unbeaten in three straight contests, while the Catamounts will be looking for their first conference win of the season.
The Terriers are 8-2-2 all-time against the Catamounts and are 2-0-1 in the last three meetings. In 2007, sophomore Tiya Gallegos netted her first collegiate goal to lift BU over UVM, 1-0, while also holding a 20-5 advantage in shots.
Most recently, the Terriers battled through 110 minutes of action and came away with a 1-1 draw with Dartmouth on Wednesday evening. Sophomore Janie Reilly made seven saves in net, including one in overtime, to pick up the win. Sophomore Corie Halasz found the back of the net in the 38th minute off a feed from freshman Jessica Luscinski; however, the Big Green retaliated late in the second half off a rebound.
Halasz and junior Farrell McClernon have each tallied two goals this season and five other Terriers have scored once to give the squad numerous threats in the offensive zone. As a team, BU is second in the conference in shots as it averages 12.50 shots per game. Defensively, Reilly owns a 0.66 goals-against average with five shutouts and a .852 save percentage. The Coral Springs, Fla., native is tied for first in the America East with five shutouts and is third in GAA and save percentage.
After dropping seven straight games, Vermont recently ended the skid with a convincing 5-2 victory over Rider on Sept. 27; however, it opened conference play with a 2-0 loss to Hartford. Carson Laderoute and Emily Perrin lead the offense with three goals apiece, while Erin Pichiotino and Sasha Morey are close behind with two goals each. Eliza Bradley and Jess Rosene have split time in net; however, over the last four games Bradley has gotten the nod in net. She owns a 2.15 GAA and .792 save percentage.
On Thursday, Oct. 9, BU will travel to Binghamton for a televised game on Fox Soccer Channel at 8 p.m.
