LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Boston University men's basketball team hit the road for the first time this season, as the Terriers face off against Bucknell at Sojka Pavilion on Tuesday at 7 p.m. They are meeting for just the second time in program history after the Bison won the first meeting, 63-57, during an in-season tournament held in California three years ago. This contest marks the first of four scheduled between the two teams.
Picked to finish fifth in this year's Patriot League preseason coaches' poll, Bucknell returned three starters from last season's 12-19 (6-8 PL) squad and opened the year on the road with an 81-52 loss at Maryland last Friday. First-year head coach Dave Paulsen joined the program during the offseason after spending eight years at Division III Williams College, where he compiled a 170-53 recorded and guided the 2003 team to the NCAA championship.
Like the Terriers, the Bison suffered an off-night in shooting in their first game, only making 19 of 60 shots from the field, while also committing 20 turnovers. Senior guard Justin Castleberry is the top returning scorer from last year with a 10.9 points per game average. Junior forward Patrick Behan started 14 of 30 games played, averaging 6.3 ppg and 2.9 reb. He began the new season on the right foot with 12 points and nine boards to lead Bucknell in both categories against the Terrapins.
Boston University kicked off its 100th season at Agganis Arena in a thrilling overtime game that eventually ended in disappointment with a 63-58 loss at the hands of George Washington. Despite BU leading for much of the game, the Colonials almost left the court at the end of regulation with at least a two-point victory, but with eight seconds remaining, Corey Lowe grabbed a long rebound off a missed three-pointer and sprinted across the court to score a layup with 2.1 seconds remaining.
America East player of the game John Holland led the Terriers in points with 22 points and in rebounds at eight along with Matt Wolff. Carlos Strong contributed 14 points off the bench. Freshman Jake O'Brien started in his first career game for the injured Scott Brittain and posted eight points with six rebounds and three blocks.
The Terriers will open The Roof on Saturday (Nov. 22) against St. Peter's, a team they defeated on the road last season, 67-64, as part of the BracketBusters pool.
