
Lagasse Wins, Women's Cross Country Third at Dartmouth Invitational

HANOVER, N.H. - Junior Erin Lagasse finished first in a field of 76 runners at the Dartmouth Invitational to help the Boston University women's cross country team to a third-place finish in its first race of the season on Saturday morning at the Hanover Country Club. Brown won the event with 51 points and the Terriers ended up in the middle of a three-team battle for second with 75 points, just behind Northeastern (73) and just ahead of Dartmouth (76).
Lagasse ran the 5k course in 19:53.8, the only runner in the field to post a sub-20-minute time. Freshman Katie Matthews (20:52.0) was BU's second finisher with an 11th place finish in her collegiate debut, followed closely by sophomore Molly James (21:00.6) in 13th place. Junior captain Mollie Zapata (21:19.6) crossed in 23rd place and junior captain Sarah Mosser (21:34.4) wrapped up the scoring with her 27th place finish.
Also finishing for the Terriers was sophomore Courtney Gardner (21:36.6) in 30th place, freshman Amanda Solly (22:11.9) in 48th place, freshman Anna Lukes (22:36.0) in 53rd and freshman Madeline Steiner (23:17.7) in 64th.
After the top four teams, Maine (115), Monmouth (127) and Massachusetts (170) rounded out the field.
The Terriers are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 20, running in the Ted Owen Invitational at noon at Stanley Quarter Park in New Britain, Conn.
