
Swimming and Diving Defeats CCSU, 157-77

BOSTON - The Boston University women's swimming and diving program defeated CCSU, 157-77, on Saturday afternoon at Competition Pool. Amanda Schmitz and Melinda Matyas won two individual events, while the Terriers swept first, second and third in five events.
In the women's meet, the Terriers opened the day with a victory in the 200-medley relay, as Francesca Ferrante swam the lead off leg, followed by Emily Munday, Kirsten Tullis and Liz Floyd. The relay team finished in 1:47.08.
Kara Zebrowski kept the momentum in the Terriers' favor as she picked up the first individual victory with a time of 1:55.34 in the 200 free.
Lauren Drake led a sweep of the 50 free with a time of 24.03 and she was followed by Floyd (24.46) and Ferrante (25.55). In the following event - the 400 IM - Schmitz (4:27.94), Brigette O'Shaughnessy (4:30.97) and Clara Van Allen (4:37.68) duplicated the results as they claimed first, second and third, respectively. Schmitz followed up her performance with her second individual win of the afternoon as she led her second sweep - this time in the 100 fly. Schmitz clocked in at 58.41, and Drake (58.61) and Doersam (59.47) placed second and third, respectively.
BU continued its dominance with its third sweep of the afternoon in the 100 free. Tullis picked up her first individual win of the day in the event with a time of 51.84, followed by O'Shaughnessy (54.19) and Floyd (54.65).
After swimming the second leg of the 200-medley relay, Munday picked up her first individual win of the afternoon as she won the 100 back with a time of 57.32. Maria McIntyre placed second in the event, touching in 58.71.
In the diving events, Melinda Matyas won the 3M with a score of 254.15, followed in second by Sarah Colton (238.05) and Bailey O'Brien (231.05). On the 1M, the trio also swept the top three spots with Matyas claiming top honors.
BU will host its annual Terrier Invitational next weekend at Competition Pool.
