BOSTON - Trailing 56-50 with 1:42 remaining in regulation, the Boston University men's basketball team (0-2) resorted to fouling in hopes of catching up with George Washington (2-0), but the Colonials responded by hitting 13-of-14 free throws to hold the Terriers off and pull out the 69-59 victory on Tuesday night at Agganis Arena. John Holland and Corey Lowe combined for 45 points off 14-of-30 shooting, but the rest of the team went 5-of-32 in the loss.
Named America East player of the game, Holland tallied the game's lone double-double and sixth of his career with 24 points and 11 rebounds, while Lowe added 21 points and Carlos Strong recorded nine rebounds. As a team, the Terriers finished 19-of-62 (.306) from the field. They committed two fewer turnovers, 18-20, but were out rebounded, 45-38.
Lasan Kromah tallied a team-high 17 points, as the Colonials had a total of four players score in double-figures. GW went 18-of-48 (.375) from the field and finished the contest 27-of-35 (.771) from the charity stripe after making just 20-of-44 (.455) attempts in its first game against UNC Wilmington.
Like the first contest on the road against Iona, Tyler Morris gave the Terriers their biggest lead at the start with the game's first points off a jumper. Lasan Kromah immediately responded with a trey, as GW slowly built the lead up to five points midway through the first half.
Lowe gave BU its final lead of the game, 20-19, with a jumper at 3:44, but Aaron Ware hit a jump shot on the following possession for a 21-20 lead with 3:17 left in the first half. The Colonials wouldn't trail the rest of the game, as they finished the half on a 7-0 run to enter the locker room ahead, 26-20.
In the second stanza, GW had its largest lead at 10:18 when Tim Johnson's layup put the Colonials ahead, 48-35. The Terriers held strong though and went on a 8-1 run capped by a jumper by Lowe at 5:55 to cut the lead to six.
However, GW responded with a 6-0 run ending at 3:26 on Tony Taylor's layup and then managed to stay ahead of the Terriers with strong free throw shooting to earn its 11th straight victory over BU.
The Terriers will next travel to San Juan for the third annual O'Reilly Auto Parts Puerto Rico Tip-Off, which is set to start with Big 12 member Kansas State on Thursday (Nov. 19) at 7:30 p.m. ET.
