BOSTON -
Head coach Shawn Rychcik and the Boston University softball program have announced the signing of three student-athletes, as Holli Floetker, Brittany Clendenny and Megan Volpano will suit up in the scarlet and white in 2011. Rychcik made the announcement on Friday afternoon.
Holli Floetker will come to Boston University from Ocean View High School in Fountain Valley, Calif., where she is a three-time All-League First-Team honoree, heading into her senior campaign. As a rookie she earned Rookie of the Year status and the following year she was named the CIF Player of the Year and Golden West League Pitcher of the Year. Floetker hails from a highly successful program that has gone undefeated in three years and has won the Golden West League from 2007-2009 and the team went on to win the CIF in her sophomore campaign. Floetker played club ball for CA Scorpions Gold, which was coached by Chuck Christensen.
“Holli is a very big signee for us,” said Rychcik. “She has great size for a pitcher at 6-0, and throws very hard as just a senior in high school. We have seen her throw many times over the past year and we fill that she can be one of the more dominant pitchers in our conference and in the Northeast.”
A native of Gainesville, Va., Brittany Clendenny is a two-time Manassas Journal Messenger All-Area honoree at Battlefield High School, where they won the Cedar Run District championship in her freshman, sophomore and junior seasons. In her last three campaigns, the squad advanced to the Northwest Regional championship, which they won in 2008. Clendenny played club ball for VA Vienna Stars – coached by Tony Rollins.
“Brittany brings us depth in the middle of the infield as well as some help in the outfield,” continued Rychcik. “We are excited to have her left-handed bat in the lineup and expect her to get opportunities to contribute right away. She will also help us maintain our defensive dominance in the Northeast.”
Rounding out the trio is Megan Volpano of Monterey, Calif., who was a MTAL All-League First Team honoree as a sophomore and the Stevenson School’s Offensive Player of the Year. As a junior she earned MTAL MVP status and Monterey County All-County First Team honors. She played for coach Jon Gron for the CA San Jose Sting for club ball.
“Megan will have a chance to be a four-year starter at third base,” stated Rychcik. “She is a very solid defender and a good middle of the order hitter. We needed to recruit someone at third base that can take away bunts and start double plays for us. We are excited to see her solidify our third base position.”
