Terriers Compete at BU Valentine Invitational

BOSTON - A trio of Terriers from the Boston University men's indoor track and field team posted ECAC-qualifying marks at the BU Valentine Invitational on Saturday at the BU Track and Tennis Center. Sophomore Ken Haltom qualified in the 1,000m run, while junior Jeff Moreau and freshman Balint Horvath met the standard in the 800m run.

Moreau (1:52.45) and Horvath (1:52.54) finished eighth and ninth, respectively, in the 800m run. Freshmen Billy Whelan (1:58.66) and Colin Lee (1:58.84) also crossed together in 65th and 66th place, while sophomore James Weider (2:00.51) was 93rd.

Haltom also qualified for ECACs with a 2:28.97 mark in the 1,000m run, good for 14th place.

In the sprints, senior David Barth finished 71st in the 55m dash with a 6.98. In the 200m dash, junior Max Esposito (22.38) was 31st, freshman Matt Pereira (22.46) was 39th, freshman Kedzie Teller (22.85) was 59th and senior Kodjo Wilder (23.01) was 70th. Junior Mark Mazzochette finished 70th in the 400m dash with a 50.92.

Pereira also cleared 1.83m in the high jump to tie for 11th in that event, while Wilder leaped 6.75m to finish seventh in the long jump.

Senior Jason Nardella placed sixth in the 55m hurdles, posting his best time of 7.82 in the preliminaries.

In the pole vault, freshman Justin Maes cleared 4.11m for 12th place and junior Jordan Cumper came in 17th with a mark of 3.81m.

Sophomore Dan Withrow was the Terriers' only entrant in the cage, reaching 15.43m to finish sixth in the shot put.

The Terriers are back in action next weekend (Feb. 20-21), hosting the America East Championships at the Track and Tennis Center on Friday and Saturday.
