
No. 19 Men's Soccer Travels to Rhode Island Saturday

BOSTON - Seeking its first three-game win streak of the year, the 19th-ranked Boston University men's soccer team (5-2-1) visits Rhode Island (3-4-0) on Saturday for a 7 p.m. start time. The Terriers have only allowed three goals in eight games so far, their best defensive start since 1986 when they allowed just two en route to a NCAA tournament berth.
Ranked sixth in the NSCAA Northeast region, they are currently riding a two-game win streak after earning a 1-0 victory at Columbia on Sunday followed by a 2-0 home win against Holy Cross. Aaron O'Neal leads the team in scoring with 12 points (5g, 2a), while Hrafn Davidsson has led the defense with a 0.36 goals against average and .906 save percentage.
The Rams started the season with a 1-0 win at home against Boston College before splitting the next two games with a loss at Siena and victory against Iona. They then dropped the three following games agianst Dartmouth, Hartford and Brown before pulling out a 2-1 overtime victory at Yale.
Erkko Puranen leads the team with five points off two goals and an assist, while Gary Crooks has one of each as well. At goal, Chris Pennock has posted two shutouts and currently holds a 1.60 GAA and .738 save percentage.
Last season at Nickerson Field, then-junior Tom Strackhouse recorded two goals within 65 seconds of each other to lead BU to a 4-0 win over Rhode Island. The Terriers own a 21-15-8 record against the Rams, having won the last five games with the previous loss happening in 2003.
BU will return to the state in their next game for a Wednesday night (Sept. 30) matchup at Brown, beginning at 7 p.m.
