Terriers Capture Six Events in 2010 Opener

BOSTON - The Boston University women's track and field team placed fourth in a multi-team meet at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center on Thursday evening. The Terriers captured wins in six events, including registering the top three times in the 200m dash.
Whitney Ford got the Terriers off to a fast start, taking the title in the 55m dash with a time of 7.18. Shelby Walton placed third in the event with a time of 7.29. The 200m race belonged to BU as Laura Martin (25.05) crossed the line in first, followed immediately by Ford (25.23) and Walton (25.79). The Terriers tightened their grasp on the sprint events, going 1-2 in the 55m hurdles as Nikko Brady (8.13) won the event and Allison Barwise (8.72) took second. Barwise went on to capture the high jump title with a mark of 1.65m as well as the long jump with a 5.51-meter leap. Ford wrapped up the Terrier victories with a win in the triple jump, posting a winning mark of 12.19m.
Jackie Dim brought in five points for the Terriers with a fourth-place time of 1:19.38 in the 500m race and Sarah Mosser chipped in seven team points finishing second in the mile run with a time of 4:56.53. Katie Matthews scored six for BU with a third-place time of 9:54.88 in the 3,000m run and Fiona Romeri's third place mark of 3.05m in the pole vault added five more to the Terrier total. Lauren Berg brought in four points, finishing fifth in the shot put and Jen Fleser's 13.91m mark in the weight throw was good for four more points for BU.
The Terriers are back in action on Jan. 29 at the Terrier Invitational at the Track and Tennis Center.
