Swimming and Diving Sweeps AE Weekly Accolades

Cambridge, Mass. - The Terriers have swept the AE swimming and diving awards for the third time this season with juniors Kyle Ernst and Tanner Knorr garnering men's Swimmer and Diver of the Week honors, respectively, after leading the Terriers over Brown. BU sophomore Amanda Schmitz and freshman Melinda Matyas garner the female Swimmer and Diver of the Week accolades, respectively, for the week ending Jan. 18 after helping the women remain undefeated this season with three wins this past weekend.
Ernst has earned his second weekly honor of the year after posting two individual and one relay win on Saturday. He swam the second leg for the 200 medley relay team that won in 1:33.17. His individual titles came in the 100 and 200 breast with times of 57.29 and 2:06.74, respectively. Although both times are top marks in the conference this season, Ernst already holds the top spot in the America East standings for both events. Against Brown, he also recorded a third place finish in the 200 IM in 1:57.73.
Knorr recorded a first-place finish on the three-meter boards on Saturday with a score of 317.55. He also placed second on the one-meter with a score of 278.03. This is Knorr's second straight weekly honor and seventh overall for the season.
Schmitz led the Terriers in both dual meets over the weekend. Against Brown, Schmitz won the 200 fly in 2:04.46 and the 500 free in 5:04.14. She also placed third in the 200 IM with a time of 2:11.51. On Monday against conference foe New Hampshire and crosstown rival Northeastern, she again won the 200 fly in 2:05.78 and the 500 free in 5:00.64. Schmitz is top-five in the performance list for both events. She also added the 200 IM to her title tally, touching first in a time of 2:08.62. Her time in the 200 IM moves her to sixth in the conference standings.
Matyas continues her diving dominance, earning her eighth weekly diving award. Against Brown, Matyas won both the one and three-meter boards with scores of 258.45 and 307.95, respectively. On Monday, Matyas again won both the one and three-meter dives with scores of 270.10 and 296.50, respectively. Her score on the three-meter against New Hampshire and Northeastern is the highest score in the conference this season.
