BALTIMORE, Md. - Playing in front of a hostile crowd of 2,781 on the Fox Soccer Channel, the Boston University men's soccer team earned a 2-0 shutout victory at UMBC Friday night. Senior Ben Havey scored the game-winning goal and assisted on classmate Ryan Shea's score to help the Terriers improve to 9-3-1 and 4-0-0 in league play.
With the program's sixth-straight win, 26th-year head coach Neil Roberts is assured of his 25th-winning season. Redshirt freshman Brandon Briggs posted two saves for his sixth shutout of the year, while junior Michael Bustamante and freshman Derek McCaffrey each made a team save to give UMBC (6-4-2, 1-1-2) its third shutout loss on the year.
On the first score in the 35th minute, BU's America East player of the game Havey grabbed the rebound off Knox's initial attempt and rifled it from 14 yards out. Three minutes into the second half, senior Ryan Shea added a second goal off an assist from Havey, who now has 12 points off four goals and four assists.
Terriers finished ahead in shots, 14-8, after holding the Retrievers without an attempt during a 55-minute stretch.
BU will have a week off before traveling to New Hampshire on Sat., Oct. 23.
