CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - The No. 15 Boston University field hockey team dropped a 3-0 contest to No. 4 Connecticut in its non-conference finale on Wednesday afternoon at Jack Barry Field. The Terriers' final two games of the regular season will be against America East opponents, beginning with a road match-up against No. 18 Albany on Sunday (Oct. 24) at 3 p.m.
UConn scored once in the opening half before adding insurance goals in the 45th and 60th minutes to improve to 13-3 on the year.
The Terriers (9-6) overcame an early offensive flurry by the Huskies that included seven shots and three corners in the first seven minutes of play.
The visitors got on the board, however, at 13:52 when freshman Anne Jeute scored the first of her two goals on the day with an impressive individual effort. Off a long corner from the right side, the striker dribbled through the BU defense before firing from five yards out in the middle of the circle.
BU attempted to tie the contest after entering the half with a 1-0 deficit, but the Huskies took advantage of a corner to double their lead.
Sophomore Alicia Angelini was in the right place at the right time as a shot from the stick of her sister, junior Jestine Angelini, was blocked and the ball deflected off to the left post, where she was there to knock it in at 44:22.
UConn capped the scoring at 59:28 when Jeute tipped in an effort from senior Melissa Gonzalez.
Sophomore Julie Collins made seven saves in goal for the Terriers, while freshman Sarah Mansfield recorded four stops for the Huskies and got help with a pair of defensive saves by Jestine Angelini.
UConn outshot BU, 18-7, and held an 8-3 advantage in corners. All three of the Terriers' corners were earned in the second half.
