Terriers to Clash With Lafayette in Patriot League Final

Making its ninth Patriot League title game appearance in 13 seasons, the fourth-seeded Boston University field hockey team will take on second-seeded Lafayette in the Patriot League championship game on Saturday (Nov. 8).
The Terriers earned a 1-0 win over top seed American on Thursday to reach the title game, and the Leopards toppled Bucknell, 2-1, on Thursday to advance to the final round of the Patriot League tournament.

Making its ninth Patriot League title game appearance in 13 seasons, the fourth-seeded Boston University field hockey team will take on second-seeded Lafayette in the Patriot League championship game on Saturday (Nov. 8).
The Terriers earned a 1-0 win over top seed American on Thursday to reach the title game, and the Leopards toppled Bucknell, 2-1, on Thursday to advance to the final round of the Patriot League tournament.
TITLE GAME NOTES
- For the first time ever, Boston University and Lafayette will meet for the Patriot League title.
- The Terriers are 4-4 all-time in the PL championship game wih their last title coming in 2018.
- BU is in the Patriot League tournament for the 11th time in 13 seasons as a member.
- This is just the third time since 2014 that the Terriers are in the Patriot League tournament and are not the No. 1 seed.
- The Terriers are now 13-6 all-time in the Patriot League tournament.
- BU is now 9-2 all-time in the Patriot League semifinal round with the losses coming in 2023 and 2024.
- This will be the third postseason meeting between the Terriers and Leopards as they each have a PL semifinal victory over each other.
- On Thursday the Terriers downed top-seeded American, 1-0, in the semifinal round to reach the Patriot League title game for the ninth time.
- Junior Nicole Lauro scored the game's lone goal with 1:21 remaining in the first half and classmate Sophie Ortyl posted a two-save shutout.
- Freshman Delfi Coulo earned an assist on Lauro's goal.
- The result snapped BU's four-game losing streak to the Eagles and marked the Terriers' first-ever shutout of American.
- BU is now 7-10 on the year.
- Senior Caroline O'Brien continues to lead all Patriot League players in points with 31 and ranks tied for second in goals (12) and fifth in assists (7).
- Freshman Molly Driscoll (5g, 3a) and junior Nicole Lauro (6g, 1a) have added 13 and 12 points, respectively.
- Molly's older sister, Maggie, is fourth on the team in points with eight on two goals and four assists.
- Junior Sophie Ortyl has started the past 15 games in goal and currently sports a .642 save percentage and a 2.65 goals-against average.
- Defending Patriot League champion Lafayette downed third-seeded Bucknell by a score of 2-1 in Thursday's second semifinal.
- Three Leopards—senior goalkeeper Raffi Fragomeni, senior Makenzie Switzer and junior Lena Thedrian—were named to the All-Patriot League First Team while senior Josephine van Wijk was a second-team selection.
- Fragomeni was tabbed the PL Goalkeeper of the Year and she enters Saturday's title game with a 1.34 goals-against average and a .737 save percentage.
- Junior Katie Gibb (5g, 11a) and Thedrian (8g, 5a) are tied for the team lead in points with 21 while junior Lea Good has added 16
- The Terriers are 7-8 against the Leopards all-time and Lafayette has won the past six matchups.
- Two weeks ago in BU's home finale, the Leopards earned a 1-0 road win with Katie Gibb providing the lone goal in the 37th minute.
