Box Score
BALTIMORE, Md. -
Senior Cassidi Hardy threw her fourth career no-hitter - and first of the season - in a 5-0 victory over UMBC on Sunday afternoon. Hardy struck out nine batters and issued just one walk in her 13th win in the circle this year. Offensively, the Terriers recorded 11 hits off the Retrievers, including two home runs, as they improve to 23-15 overall and 7-2 in the America East. UMBC falls to 21-19 overall and 2-7 in the conference.
Hardy is now one of only two pitchers in the history of the program to throw four no-hitters, joining Audrey West ('96) in the elite group. She did not allow a base runner until the fourth inning with a hit by pitch, and she did issue a walk until the sixth - giving UMBC just two base runners all game. Lauren Brummell, who was walked, was the only one to advance to the second bag on a passed ball. To close out her no-no, Hardy struck out three of the final four batters and the last out was a pop up to senior Rachel Moeller at third base.
Sophomore Emily Roesch and seniors Rachel Moeller and Caitlin Rentler recorded two hits apiece, while junior April Setterlund went deep for the 12th time this season and Roesch recorded her third home run of 2010. In all, BU unleashed 11 hits off UMBC pitchers Amanda Fefel and Stephanie Weigman.
In the second frame, senior Rachel Hebert singled into left field, bringing home freshman Taylor Cowan, for the first run of the game. In the third, Setterlund and Roesch hit back-to-back balls over the fence and three at-bats later Cowan's double drove in Moeller for the fifth and final run of the game.
On Tuesday (April 20), BU will take on crosstown foe Boston College in a doubleheader in Chestnut Hill, Mass. at 3 p.m.
