BETHLEHEM, Pa. – After posting a 3-0 record with the help of 27 strikeouts in 19.0 innings of work, Boston University softball senior Kasey Ricard set a new Patriot League record with her 17th career Pitcher of the Week award, as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.
The Littleton, Massachusetts, native started off the week by limiting defending Big East champion UConn to three hits in a 9-1 (6) victory and then followed up with two wins against PL rival Lehigh over the weekend. Her fourth PL Pitcher of the Week award this season moved her into sole possession of the conference career record ahead of Lehigh's Lisa Sweeney ('09).
During the first win against the Huskies, Ricard totaled 11 strikeouts with one unearned run allowed. She then posted 10 strikeouts against four hits and two earned runs allowed in a 6-3 win over the Mountain Hawks.
In her third appearance, Ricard became the second pitcher this season to post a complete-game shutout against Lehigh with the help of six strikeouts and just five hits allowed. Overall, she held opponents to a combined .174 batting average.
The Terriers will next host Bucknell in a three-game series on April 4-5.
