BOSTON - Opening a four-game homestand, the Boston University softball team will host Rhode Island on Tuesday (April 21) with the NESN broadcast set for 1 p.m.

The Terriers enter the matchup having won their last two games at Patriot League foe Army West Point by a combined score of 18-6, while the Rams went 1-2 in Atlantic 10 action at Fordham over the weekend, pulling out a 5-4 win in the last contest.

TERRIER TIDBITS

BU is 15-1 at home this season with 10 shutouts and a perfect 10-0 record against non-conference opponents, highlighted by a 9-1 (6) victory over UConn and doubleheader sweep against Quinnipiac (7-0, 12-1).
Named Patriot League Player of the Week for the third time Monday, junior Kylie Doherty is batting a team-high .394 with a program single-season record 20 homers and 70 RBIs, tied for third most nationally.
Senior Brooke Deppiesse is second at .383 with 49 runs scored, one ahead of Doherty, while both senior Megan Coyle and junior Kyomi Apalit are tied for third at .349.
In total, the Terriers have recorded 51 homers, second most in program history and 13 shy of the 2007 squad's record with Deppiesse, Coyle and Apalit combining for 21.
BU has demonstrated patience at the plate, claiming 208 walks against 162 strikeouts with six Terriers taking first on a free pass at least 20 times. Freshman Irys Kline (.325) owns 34 walks for a team-high .488 on-base percentage.
Recording the Patriot League's first four-peat as Pitcher of the Week on Monday, senior Kasey Ricard (26-6, 2.87 ERA) has collected 191 strikeouts over 195.0 innings of work with 11 solo shutouts and three saves. Senior Haley Ganino (6-2, 3.70 ERA) has pitched the second most innings at 58.2 total.
11th-year head coach Ashley Waters just needs one more victory to reach the 400-win milestone.
Overall, BU is batting .336 and holding opponents to .245 with 137-83 advantage in extra-base hits.

SCOUTING RHODE ISLAND

The Rams are 7-12 in true road games, earning a doubleheader sweep in non-conference play at Sacred Heart along with a split at Yale.
In home action, URI recorded a split against UMass Lowell and lost twice to Brown.

BU leads the all-time series, 31-2, after winning the last matchup, 4-1, back in 2019 at home.
