Waters Reaches 400-Win Milestone as Terriers Shut Out Rhode Island, 6-0

BOSTON - Highlighted by three extra-base hits and senior Kasey Ricard's six strikeouts, the Boston University softball team earned a 6-0 home victory over Rhode Island Tuesday afternoon.
With their 16th shutout of the season, the Terriers improve to 37-13, as 11th-year head coach Ashley Waters becomes the fastest in Patriot League history to reach the 400-win milestone. BU posted a 7-4 advantage in hits and totaled six walks against the Rams (16-24).

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Following a scoreless first inning, the Terriers took advantage of a fielding error with sophomore Camryn Lyons delivering an RBI triple and scoring on junior Kyomi Apalit's RBI sac fly.
- After senior Brooke Deppiesse singled off the URI pitcher and junior Kylie Doherty earned a walk, junior Sophie Naivar blasted the first pitch toward left center for a two-RBI double and 4-0 lead.
- The Rams threatened in the fourth on a two-out hit-by-pitch and single to center, but Ricard earned a line out to left to keep the four-run lead.
- URI recorded back-to-back one-out singles in the sixth before flying out to left and striking out swinging.
- The Terriers added two more runs in the bottom of the sixth on senior Megan Coyle's RBI single and rundown between first and second that allowed Doherty to score.
- Ricard sealed the shutout with her sixth strikeout and a pair of ground outs.
- BU will next conclude Patriot League play by hosting Holy Cross in a three-game series with Saturday's doubleheader and Sunday's single contest both set for 12 p.m.
- The 13-2 Terriers only need one win or a loss by both Colgate (7-5) and Army (7-5) to claim sole possession of the regular season title.
- BU leads the all-time series, 55-8, and is on a 28-game win streak against the Crusaders.
