BETHLEHEM, Pa. - After helping the Boston University softball team clinch conference tournament hosting rights for the seventh time in eight seasons, junior outfielder Kylie Doherty and senior pitcher Kasey Ricard collected Patriot League weekly honors, as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
Doherty batted .474 with a team-high nine RBIs to claim her third Player of the Week award this season and fourth overall. In the circle, Ricard earned two wins alongside a save to become the first pitcher in PL history to four-peat and also the first to receive seven awards in a single category over one season.
A native of Bolton, Massachusetts, Doherty recorded two hits in four of the five games and also had two RBIs in four contests. She started off the week batting 2-for-4 with a two-run homer that helped the Terriers rally for an 11-6 victory at Harvard. She then delivered an RBI double at Providence and went 5-for-12 in the series win at Army with six RBIs and two runs scored.
Now a PL record 20-time Pitcher of the Week, Ricard pitched a scoreless 1.1 innings against the Crimson for her third save of the season and ninth overall. She later held the Black Knights to a combined nine hits over 12.1 innings with five strikeouts to become the first active pitcher across all three NCAA divisions to reach 100 career victories.
The Terriers will next open a four-game homestand by hosting Rhode Island on Tuesday (April 21) with the NESN broadcast set for 1 p.m.
