CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Freshman midfielder Jamie Turchi (Santa Margarita, Calif.) of the Boston University women’s soccer team was named America East Rookie of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
Turchi scored the game-winning goal, her first collegiate tally, at Stony Brook on Thursday night. Her strike in the 43rd minute gave the Terriers a 1-0 lead in a game they eventually won, 2-0. Turchi also made her presence felt on the pitch in an 8-0 win over UMBC on Sunday. She had two shots in 15 minutes of action against the Retrievers.
The Santa Margarita, Calif., native has played in all 17 games this season, starting nine of them. She has helped the Terriers win nine straight games and maintain a perfect 7-0-0 record in conference competition.
The successful weekend also netted another Terrier national recognition. Senior forward Tiya Gallegos (Lakewood, Calif.) was named to TopDrawerSoccer.com’s National Team of the Week. She found the back of the net once and assisted on two additional goals against UMBC on Sunday afternoon.
The Terriers will look for their 10th straight victory when they welcome Dartmouth to Nickerson Field in the final non-conference game for BU this season. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
