
Terriers Hold Off Maine, 2-1

ORONO, Maine - The Boston University women's soccer team (10-2-1, 3-0-0 AE) staved off a late comeback by Maine (3-5-1, 0-2-0 AE) as it held on for a 2-1 victory on Sunday afternoon. Senior Tiya Gallegos and freshman Taylor Krebs provided the goals for the Terriers.
BU outshot Maine, 18-5, putting nine on target, while also holding the 4-1 advantage in corner kicks. Gallegos and senior Jessica Luscinski led all players with four shots apiece, while defensively, sophomore Kelly King made two saves between the pipes.
Gallegos scored her second goal of the season at 55:14 off a set play. After the ball was served into the box, it was bounced around and following a rebound Gallegos seized the opportunity and buried it into the back of the net for the go-ahead tally.
Four minutes later, Krebs scored the eventual game winner off another rebound in the box. The tally was her fifth of the season, tying Luscinski and sophomore Kylie Strom for the league lead in goals.
With less than five minutes remaining in regulation, the Black Bears came storming back to make it a one-goal game when Maddie Hill scored off a failed clearance in the Terriers' box off a corner kick. They continued to try and tie the game with one more shot at 86:07, however, Courtney Harnais' attempt sailed wide of the net.
With the victory, the Terriers extend their winning streak to five straight games. They have now won 18 straight games against America East foes and 36 of its last 37 matches against conference opponents.
BU will next take on New Hampshire on Thursday, Oct. 6, at 3:30 p.m. in Durham, N.H.
