CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - After leading the Boston University men's soccer team to wins over Harvard and Hartford by making five saves and allowing just one goal, freshman goalkeeper Nick Thomson has been named America East Rookie of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
A native of Cramlington, England, Thomson stopped three shots in the Terriers' 2-1 win against the Crimson Wednesday, their first at Harvard since 1994. He then made three saves and recorded his second shutout of the season in a 1-0 victory over Hartford Sunday, BU's third straight in a league opener.
Thomson has started eight games in net for the Terriers and gone 4-4-0 with a 0.99 goals-against average, which ranks second among league leaders.
BU will next host Providence on Tuesday (Oct. 4) at 7 p.m. The Friars (6-2-1) are currently ranked 27th by College Soccer News.
