BOSTON - In a contest featuring two of the nation's top leading scorers, the Boston University men's basketball team will host former America East rival Delaware on Wednesday (Nov. 30) at Case Gymnasium with action slated to begin at 7 p.m.
Coincidentally, both squads will be entering the game on a two-game win streak. Competing in the TicketCity Legends Classic this past weekend, the Terriers (2-4) dropped a hard-fought 63-62 decision to Cleveland State before responding with a 70-64 win over Rhode Island and 68-61 victory against Hofstra.
Leading the charge was senior Darryl Partin, who was named America East Player of the Week on Monday after averaging 23.0 ppg and 5.0 rpg during the three games. Classmate Patrick Hazel played a key role on both sides of the court as well, averaging 13.7 bpg and 8.7 rpg. He also posted a combined 10 blocks to move into seventh-place all-time at BU with 75, an impressive achievement considering he's only played 41 games with the Terriers after transferring from Marquette.
They will have their hands full trying to contain sophomore Devon Saddler, who ranks first nationally in scoring at 24.5 ppg with Partin sitting in eighth at 22.8 ppg. He scored a career-high 32 points to help the Blue Hens (2-2) to pull out an 81-78 win over Lafayette. Before the contest, he tallied 27 points in a loss to Villanova and followed with 21 for the 72-64 win against Cornell.
Delaware leads the all-time series, 17-11, with the road team having won the last two meetings. As part of the 2010 BracketBusters, John Holland tallied a career-high 43 points to set a Bob Carpenter Center facility record and help BU earn a 78-65 victory. In the last meeting at Case Gym on Dec. 21, 2008, the Blue Hens hit a 3-pointer with 4.1 seconds to pull out a 70-68 victory after the Terriers hit two free throws to take a one-point lead.
After playing in its first home game in three weeks, BU will take to the road again with a short trip over to Boston College. The crosstown rivals will be meeting for the first time since the 2004-05 season. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
