BOSTON - Named America East Defender of the Year back in November, Boston University men's soccer sophomore Kelvin Madzongwe earned his first-ever NSCAA All-Northeast Region award.
A 6-foot-2 center back from Zimbabwe, he was placed on the second team after helping the Terriers capture their second consecutive America East regular season title.
Madzongwe, also a First Team All-Conference defender after earning second-team honors as a freshman, was just the second underclassman to be named the America East's top defender since the award was instituted in 2002.
He led a defensive unit that finished with a 0.99 goals against average and shut out six opponents, including then-No. 22 Providence in a 1-0 victory. Madzongwe, who started the last 15 games, also scored a goal against Binghamton on Oct. 30.
