Track & Field Excels at Skyhawk Invitational

EASTON, Mass. - Highlighted by senior Dan Withrow's two first-place finishes, the Boston University track & field teams excelled at Stonehill's Skyhawk Invitational at W.B. Mason Stadium on Friday.
Withrow set a meet record in the discus with a 48.36m throw and placed first in the shot put with a 16.38m mark.
Junior Matt Paulson and freshman Blake Edwards also garnered wins for the Terriers. Paulson captured the 1,500-meter run title with a time of 3:57.02, while Edwards won the long jump with a 7.14m leap.
BU secured seven additional top-five finishes, including two in both the 800m and javelin. In the middle distance race, senior Jeff Moreau placed third with a time of 1:53.60, while junior Balint Horvath finished fourth (1:54.02). In the javelin, freshman Nat Hinckley (50.28m) and junior Michael Murowchick (50.08m) placed third and fourth, respectively.
Junior Matt Pereira finished fifth in the 100m dash (11.46), classmate Ceylon Mitchell placed fourth in the 400m hurdles (56.07) and BU's 4x400m relay team secured a second-place finish (3:21.71).
BU captured nine top-five finishes on the women's side, including senior Amanda Howard's win in the 400m (58.26). Freshman Carolyn Maynard sprinted to a second-place finish in the event (58.55) and also finished fourth in the 200m (25.99).
Sophomore Julia Mirochnick placed second in the 400m hurdles (1:07.36), while classmate Allison Barwise finished third in the 100m hurdles (15.24).
In field events, freshman Sarah Dillard placed second in the discus (37.53m) and fifth in the shot put (11.92m), while classmate Chelsea Curry finished second in the shot put (12.64m). Junior Alyson Rofrano also secured a fourth-place finish in the pole vault (J3.20m).
BU will return to action at the two-day America East championships in Baltimore, Md., beginning on Saturday, May 7.
