INDIANAPOLIS - Boston University Athletics had eight of its teams recognized for being among the top academically performing squads within their respective sports, the NCAA announced Tuesday.
The eight teams - the most-ever recognized at BU - included: women's tennis, women's swimming & diving, women's soccer, women's golf, softball, men's tennis, men's ice hockey and men's cross country.
The NCAA is honoring NCAA Division I sports teams with public recognition awards for their latest multiyear Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores. These teams posted multiyear APR scores in the top 10 percent of all squads in their respective sports. The public recognition awards are part of the broad Division I academic reform effort.
The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete on scholarship. The APR accounts for eligibility, retention and graduation and provides a measure of each team's academic performance.
Multiyear APRs for all Division I sports teams, including the teams receiving public recognition, will be announced Tuesday, May 24. That announcement also will include immediate and historical penalties for low-performing teams and head coach APRs.
