BOSTON - Senior Matt Rickett of the Boston University men's swimming and diving team has earned First Team Mid-Major All-American honors, CollegeSwimming.com announced Monday. Kyle Ernst, Daniel Kempf and Amanda Schmitz of the women's team received honorable mention status.
Rickett finished 36th in 100 fly at the 2011 NCAA Championships on March 26 at the Dorothy L. Shepard Pool on the campus of the University of Minnesota. Rickett clocked in at 47.65 to take 36th overall. That was his second appearance in the NCAAs, having appeared in the championships back in 2009 where he placed 47th. Rickett remains the school record holder in the 50 free and 100 fly and he is also a member of all five school record-holding relay teams.
Ernst, the 2010 America East Most Outstanding Swimmer of the Meet, has been an integral part of the men's swimming & diving program over the last four years. He graduates in May as the school record holder in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes and as a member of the record-breaking 200 and 400 medley relay teams.
Kallert recently completed one of the most impressive careers in men's swimming and diving history. He is the record holder in the both 100 and 200 backstroke and the 200 butterfly. Additionally, he's a member of three record-breaking relay teams (200 & 400 medley, 800 free).
Schmitz placed fourth in the 400 IM, fifth in the 200 fly and sixth in the 500 free at the 2011 AE Swimming & Diving Championships. She holds school records in the 500 free, 200 fly, and 400 IM.
