BOSTON – Riding an eight-game winning streak that dates back to Sept. 20, the Boston University women’s soccer team takes a break from America East action when it heads to Hanover, N.H., on Wednesday (Oct. 17) to face Dartmouth in BU’s final non-conference match of the season. First kick is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Burnham Field.
BU (11-5-1, 7-0-0 America East) and Dartmouth (9-4-0, 3-1-0 Ivy League) meet for the 16th straight season on Wednesday night. The all-time series is even between the schools at 6-6-4 although the Terriers have won the last three matches, including a 2-0 victory last season, and are unbeaten against the Big Green since a 1-0 loss in 2006.
The Terriers, who have outscored opponents by a margin of 16-5 in their eight-game winning streak, enter Wednesday’s game after clinching a share of the America East regular season title with a 1-0 win at Binghamton on Sunday. Freshman Clare Pleuler scored her second goal of the season in the 47th minute to propel BU to victory while goalkeeper Andrea Green posted her second consecutive shutout.
BU employs a balanced offense with 28 goals coming off the foot of 12 different players while 14 Terriers have recorded at least one point. Junior Madison Clemens leads the team with 14 points (7 goals) while classmate Emma Clark is second with nine points (4 goals, 1 assist). The trio of senior Brea Hewitt and sophomores Ana Cuffia and Taylor Krebs rank third with seven points, with Hewitt and Cuffia owning matching 3-1-7 stat lines while Krebs has one goal and a team-best five assists.
Green has played all but one half in net for the Terriers to post a 10-5-1 record. The junior has shutout seven opponents while making 59 saves for a 0.82 goals-against average.
Dartmouth takes a break from Ivy League action to welcome BU on Wednesday night. The Big Green is riding a three game winning streak following a 2-1 victory over Penn on Saturday. Senior Aurelia Solomon and junior Chrissy Lozier each netted a goal in the win.
Senior Emma Brush leads Dartmouth with seven goals and three assists for 17 points while Lozier also has seven goals on the season. Freshman Corey Delaney and senior Libby Hamlin lead the team with four assists each. Overall, Dartmouth has scored 26 goals on the season while limiting opponents to 12 total tallies.
Sophomore Tatiana Saunders has started every game for the Big Green and owns a 0.84 goals-against average with 51 saves on the season. Saunders has shutout four opponents.
Theresa Romagnolo is in her second season as head coach of the Big Green. Prior to leading Dartmouth, Romagnolo spent three seasons as an assistant coach for Stanford and helped lead the Cardinal to three consecutive NCAA College Cup appearances.
BU concludes the regular season at home on Sunday (Oct. 21) when the Terriers host New Hampshire for Senior Day. The game is scheduled for 1 p.m.
