CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - After recording his first goal of the season in a 2-1 overtime victory at Stony Brook, Boston University men's soccer freshman Carlos Ruiz has been named America East Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Monday morning.
Nearly 70 minutes after the Seawolves scored, Ruiz helped force a turnover and picked up the loose ball before rifling a shot just inside the far post. The Terriers went to overtime and picked up the win to snap Stony Brook's six-game unbeaten streak.
Ruiz and BU will next be on the field Wednesday (Oct. 10) at Nickerson Field against Vermont and reigning AE Player of the Week Joe Losier. He tallied five points (2g, 1a) in two games last week, as the Catamounts earned a 3-2 win over Hartford after dropping a 3-1 decision to Dartmouth.
Action is slated to begin at 7 p.m.
