BOSTON - The Boston University women's soccer team looks to continue its 25-game winning streak over America East opponents when BU hosts the University of Maine at Nickerson Field on Thursday. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
Thursday's match will be the 23rd installment in the all-time series between BU and Maine with the Terriers owning a 15-3-4 overall record. Last season, BU held off a late comeback by Maine to defeat the Black Bears, 2-1, for the Terriers seventh straight victory in the series. Maine's last victory over BU came in the 2006 America East Championship game when the Black Bears defeated the Terriers on penalty kicks.
The Terriers enter Thursday's game with a 5-5-1, (1-0-0 AE) record and a two-game winning streak after opening conference play with a 3-1 defeat over Albany last Sunday. BU has been victorious in 43 of its last 44 America East contests.
Senior Brea Hewitt and sophomore Ana Cuffia pace BU's offense with seven points apiece (3 goals, 1 assist). Cuffia has recorded two game winners while Hewitt has put in one. Junior Madison Clemens has also contributed three goals while sophomore Taylor Krebs leads the team with three assists.
On the defensive end, junior goalkeeper Andrea Green has started all 11 contests for the Terriers. Green's record stands at 4-5-1 with three clean sheets, 46 saves, a 1.01 goals-against average and a .807 saves percentage. Sophomore Alyssa Parisi recorded two saves in her collegiate debut in the second half against NC State leading BU to victory.
Maine is unbeaten in its last three games and has won four of its last six, including a 3-2 victory over Vermont on its conference opener on Sunday. The Black Bears are 5-3-1 overall and 1-0-0 in the America East.
The Black Bears have recorded 14 goals this fall with four different players netting two apiece. Sophomore Jordan Pellerin and junior Nikki Misener are first on team in points with five each (2 goals, 1 assist). Freshmen Charlene Achille and Joanie L'Abbe lead the team with two helpers each.
Freshman Lauren Swant has played all but two halves in net for the Black Bears to post a 5-2-1 record. She owns a 1.19 goals-against average and has stopped 40 shots for a .800 saves percentage with three shutouts.
Head coach Scott Atherley is in his 13th season leading the Black Bears.
Following Thursday's contest, the Terriers will travel to Burlington, Vt., to face Vermont on Sunday (Sept. 30) with kickoff slated for 1 p.m.
