BOSTON - With a pair of goals just over a minute apart, the Boston University women’s soccer team shut out Maine, 2-0, Thursday night at Nickerson Field. BU extends its winning streak against America East opponents to 26 games while improving its record to 6-5-1 (2-0-0 AE). With the loss, Maine moves to 5-4-1 (1-1-0) on the season.

After a scoreless first half that was a battle in the midfield, junior Kylie Strom found the back of the net for the first time this season in the 67th minute. Classmate Erin Mullen placed a cross from the right side in perfect position for Strom who hit a one-timer from 10 yards out in the center of the box that sailed past Maine’s Lauren Swant and gave the Terriers a 1-0 lead.

BU added to its advantage one minute and six seconds later off a corner kick by senior Jessica Morrow. Junior Madison Clemens got a piece of the ball right in front of the Black Bear’s net and fired a shot past the keeper to give BU a 2-0 lead that it would hold for the remainder of the game.

The Terriers ended the game with eight shots and held their opponent to a single shot for the second consecutive game. Clemens led all players with three shots, including two on target, while fellow junior Megan McGoldrick also had two shots with one on net. Liis Emajoe recoded Maine’s lone shot in the 29th minute of the contest but junior goalkeeper Andrea Green was there to make the save to record her fourth shutout of the season.

The Terriers return to action on Sunday (Sept. 30) when they travel to Burlington, Vt., to face Vermont. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
