BOSTON - A week after claiming a 1-0 victory over Lehigh, the Boston University men's soccer team will visit fellow Patriot League member Lafayette on Saturday with action slated to begin at 2 p.m.
Fans unable to attend the game will be able to watch the contest for free on the Patriot League Network by clicking here. The game marks the first-ever meeting between the Terriers (4-7-1, 1-3-0 PL) and Leopards (3-3-6, 1-3-0 PL)
Battered by injuries in the backline and midfield, BU collected its first Patriot League win with the foot of sophomore Lucas McBride. The striker won a battle for a long goal kick from redshirt-freshman Matt Gilbert and easily scored in the 75th minute.
With his first career game winner, McBride now leads the program with a team-high three goals. Junior Dominique Badji, freshman Felix De Bona and sophomore Jeroen Blugh are close behind at two goals apiece. Badji continues to apply the most pressure on opponents with a team-high 30 shots, while sophomore Mac McGuire has a team-high 10 attempts on goal.
Besides earning his second assist of the season on McBride's goal, Gilbert finished with one save for his fourth shutout of the season. The backline anchored by senior Fannar Arnarsson and freshman David Asbjornsson helped Gilbert fend off eight corner kicks from the Mountain Hawks in the win.
Playing stellar defense and avoiding silly turnovers will be essential against a Lafayette squad that does not give up goals easily. Nathan McDonald has started all 12 games and owns a 0.67 goals against average with a .836 save percentage. He's posted five shutouts this season with blank sheets against Dartmouth, Harvard, Cornell and Lehigh.
The Leopards have only scored eight goals this season but can still threaten teams through Peter Adubato, who has a team-high four goals and one assist for nine points. Lafayette has scored more than once in 2-1 wins over Bryant and Binghamton along with a 2-2 draw against LaSalle.
Following the game, BU will return to Nickerson Field to host Loyola Maryland on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m.
