BOSTON – Looking for its sixth straight win in conference play, the Boston University women’s soccer team travels to Hamilton, N.Y., on Wednesday (Oct. 23) to face Colgate in Patriot League action. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m. at Colgate’s Van Doren Field and will be broadcast on the Patriot League Network.
BU (10-3-3, 5-1-0 Patriot League) is in sole possession of second place in the League standings and clinched a spot in the six-team Patriot League Tournament with its 1-0 win over Loyola Maryland on Saturday. Colgate (8-4-1, 4-1-1, PL) is tied for third in the League standings with American and can clinch a spot in the tournament with a win over the Terriers on Wednesday night.
The Terriers and the Raiders will meet for the second time ever on Wednesday and the first time as conference foes. BU owns a 1-0-0 record in the series, as the Terriers defeated the Raiders, 2-1, on Sept. 6, 1998 during the Colgate Tournament.
Unbeaten in its last seven outings, BU enters Wednesday’s game having outscored Patriot League opponents, 10-1. The Terriers rank fifth in all of Division I with a 0.420 goals against average while senior goalkeeper Andrea Green is second in the nation with a 0.353 goals against average. Green has played the majority of the minutes in net for the Terriers and has only allowed five goals this season.
The Terriers’ defense has done its part to help the BU goalkeepers by limiting opponents to 6.7 shots per game with only 3.1 shots on goal per contest. BU has 10 shutouts on the season, the most clean sheets by the Terriers since they blanked 14 opponents during the 2011 season.
Senior Madison Clemens, the Patriot League preseason Offensive Player of the Year, and freshman Erica Kosienski, the reigning BRINE Rookie of the Week are tied for the lead with five goals each while Kosienski also has an assist to lead BU with 11 points. Senior Megan McGoldrick (3-2-8) and junior Jamie Turchi (2-2-6) are also multi-goal scorers for BU while a total of 11 players have at least one point this season.
Colgate, last year’s Patriot League Tournament champion, is unbeaten in its last three games, including a 1-1 draw at Bucknell on Saturday. The Raiders are second in the lead with a 1.69 goals per game average while also ranking second in the conference by holding opponents to 0.69 goals per game.
Junior Caroline Brawner is second in the PL with a 5-3-13 scoring line while classmates Emily Manoogian, Chelsea Roche and freshman Sarah Coy are tied for second on the team with three goals each. In addition, six other Raiders have netted at least one goal this season.
Freshman Brenna Mason has spent the most time in net for Colgate, having started nine games with a 0.88 goals against average. She has two shutouts on the season and a .826 save percentage.
BU will remain on the road this weekend when the Terriers travel to Washington, D.C., to play American on Sunday (Oct. 27). The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
