College Sports Madness All-Mid Major Teams List

BOSTON - After earning America East All-Conference First Team honors last week, Boston University men's basketball junior D.J. Irving has been named a Mid-Major All-American by College Sports Madness.

The lone America East representative to be recognized by the online publication, Irving was placed on the second team. Moved to the two-guard position over the summer with the addition of freshman point guard Maurice Watson Jr. and graduation of 2012 America East Player of the Year Darryl Partin, Irving became the Terriers' go-to scorer this season. A captain on the squad, he helped BU finish second in the America East and win nine of its last 11 games.

Irving averaged a personal and team-best 14.3 points per game while also averaging 3.6 assists, 3.4 rebounds and 1.4 steals per game. He tallied more than 20 points on seven occasions, including a career-high 27 points at Binghamton behind seven 3-pointers.

Shooting 36.4 percent in 3-point territory during the regular season, Irving drained five treys at Albany, including two in the final nine seconds of regulation to send the game to overtime, and finished with 20 points in the victory. Other highlights include a career-high 10 rebounds against Maine and 24-point performances at both Rutgers and Harvard.

Irving becomes the first Terrier since John Holland ('11) to be recognized as one of the top players at the mid-major level. In 2011, Holland received Lou Henson All-America accolades from CollegeInsider.com.

Banned from the America East tournament due to the upcoming move to the Patriot League, the Terriers (17-12, 11-5 AE) are awaiting word on a potential postseason bid. They will learn their fate on Selection Sunday (March 17).
