BOSTON – The Boston University women’s soccer team looks to remain unbeaten at home when the Terriers host Providence on Sunday (Sept. 15). First kick is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Nickerson Field. The game will be broadcast live on the Patriot League Network.
Both teams were in action on Friday night, as BU (4-2-1) defeated Connecticut, 1-0, at home while Providence (3-1-2) battled Harvard to a 1-1 draw.
The Terriers are 2-0-0 all-time against the Friars although the two teams have not met since the 1998 season when BU defeated Providence, 8-3, on the road. The teams have had one common opponent so far this year, as the Terriers defeated Dayton, 1-0, to open the season on Aug. 23, while the Friars fell to the Flyers, 3-0, on Aug. 25.
BU enters Sunday’s game unbeaten when playing at Nickerson Field, boasting a record of 3-0-1 on its home turf. BU has held its opponents scoreless through four games and 390 minutes of action played at Nickerson Field.
On Friday night, the Terriers ended UConn’s four-game winning streak and scored the first goal on the Huskies’ defense since Aug. 25, when senior Megan McGoldrick found the back of the net in the fourth minute of action for her first goal of the season. McGoldrick is one of six Terriers to record at least one goal this season while classmate Madison Clemens, the Patriot League preseason Offensive Player of the Year, leads the team with two tallies.
Senior Emma Clark registered her first assist of the year on McGoldrick’s goal against the Huskies to become one of five Terriers to dish out a helper this season. Sophomore Clare Pleuler leads the team with two assists.
Senior Andrea Green recorded her third shutout of the season on Friday to improve to 2-2-1 on the year with a 0.52 goals against average and a .842 save percentage. Junior Alyssa Parisi has appeared in two games for BU, earning the start and the win in the Terriers’ 2-0 triumph over Northwestern on Sept. 1.
Providence is coming off a double-overtime battle against Harvard on Friday night. Sophomore Kathryn Hiller scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season for the Friars. Senior Amanda Webster leads Providence with three assists and also ranks second on the squad with a pair of goals.
Freshman Kristyn Shea has started all six games in net for the Friars and owns a 1.02 goals against average with an .838 save percentage.
Jim McGirr is in his ninth season leading the Friars and is coming off an 8-9-1 record as he leads his team into the revamped Big East this season.
Following Sunday’s game, the Terriers will travel to Annapolis, Md., to face Navy for their first Patriot League game on Friday (Sept. 20). Game time is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
